Fri. 04 Dec. at Ristorante Malafemmena (The Naughty Lady Restaurant)
First, the wine and the water.
Then the pasta course.
Then the fish and mixed salad. The fish was shingled in very thinly sliced zucchini.
Then dessert.
And icy cold Limoncello!
Fri. 04 Dec. This Is For Hans!
The scrollwork of the Ara Pacis represents real plants. Some of them are below. (The other pictures were up too high for me to photograph.)
Fri. 04 Dec. Ara Pacis Museum
Signature of Richard Meier, architect of the Ara Pacis Museum, on the wall at the back of the fountain.
Thurs., 03 Dec. More Mother, Jugs and Speed
My head is used to show the size of the amphorae.
from an exhibit on Dressel's work on linking epigraphy and archaeology at the Markets of Trajan

Thurs. 03 Dec. at le Lanterne Restaurant
Prosciutto Pizza -- I did not need to order the veggies -- I didn't finish either. I did finish the wine! But that was for my ankle, which I turned on the way to the restaurant.
Thurs. 03 Dec. 2015 San Carlino
Cloister of San Carlo alla Quattro Fontane, called "San Carlino" because of its diminutive size. By Borromini.

Wed. 02 Dec. Dessert at the Chiostro del Bramante
Dessert: a Millefoglie, 1,000 pages. The Italian version is more creamy filling (which I think is the best part) than the French version, which is more foglie, or pages of crispy pastry.
Wed., 02 Dec. 2015 lunch at Chiostro del Bramante
Strapazzate con Bacon. Strapazzate comes from the verb "to treat badly."
These eggs were not treated badly at all.
Wed. 02 Dec. Stadium of Domitian Excavations
Very modern toilet flusher in the bathroom of the excavations. Push the large round button for more flushing and the small silver one for less. Very much appreciated reuse of the built environment.
Wed. 02 Dec. 2015 Stadium of Domitian Museum
Excavations of the Stadium of Domitian beneath the Piazza Navona. The Piazza followed the shape of the stadium, semicircular at one end and straight across at the other.
Wed. 02 Dec. 2016 Fountain of the Four Rivers
Bernini's fountain of the Four Rivers in the Piazza Navona with the church of St. Agnes in Agone in the background. The word "Agone" comes from the Greek work for the games that were played here when this area was the Stadium of Domitian.

Tues. 01 Dec. 2015 dessert at da Enzo
Ricotta cake at da Enzo. The dark layer at the bottom is a thick compote of berries and the crust is dough like in my favorite occhi di buoi cookies.
The filling is whipped ricotta with pine nuts on top. Now it is just a fond (very fond) memory.
